A form of government in which power is explicitly vested in the people, who in turn exercise their power through elected representatives. Today, the terms republic and democracy are virtually interchangeable, but historically the two differed. Democracy implied direct rule by the people, all of whom were equal, whereas republic implied a system of government in which the will of the people was mediated by representatives, who might be wiser and better educated than the average person. In the early American republic, for example, the requirement that voters own property and the establishment of institutions such as the Electoral College were intended to cushion the government from the direct expression of the popular will.
All that being said, my family was always registered republican and would vote a straight republican ticket. Now is a time when people need to be ever so careful in their choices. Voting a straight ticket for either party is not in the cards.
(IMHO) As a country we are in need of some major changes. We need to pay attention to what the candidates are saying, what are their policies, what do they think they can do for us. The question of race or sex should not even come into the picture. We know its a major issue and many will use this for their decision making.
There have been only a few elections in history that the popular vote did not decide who our president was going to be. Lets hope this election will not be added to that list. Everyone if you old enough and still have your voting rights, please I urge you pay attention, vote and vote for what you think is right.
We need some major changes. I know it won't be long before the current situation with the economy takes a major toll on my life style as it has done to so many already. Everything is going up except our wages. People may try and say minimum wage has been going up the past several years, but if your not a minimum wage worker your pay did not go up and neither did mine.
Listen to the issues, understand the issues, and make the choice you feel is right.
